Badvel  is the Head quarters of Badvel assembly segment. It is located 55 km far from Kadapa, the district head quarters. Recently, it was upgraded to Municipality status, The city is named after famous poet Baddena, who wrote Sumathi Sathakam. Initially the name was 'Baddenavolu'; it transformed later to 'Badvolu' and then to its current form 'Badvel'. The city has become the center to more than 127 villages. This is the only city developed vastly with good educational institutes like  polytechnic, Degree college, B.Ed, TTC, etc.
Fredom Fighter Vaddamani chidanandam won as Independent from Badvel segment in 1952 and 1962.he constructed Sagileru Dam (Now Proudly Called as Chidanandam lower Sagileru Dam) and Badvel Cheruvu for irrigation.
